Army Escorts Farmers Safely

The Nigerian Army troops of 6 Brigade, Operation Peace Shield, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, on Thursday repelled multiple attacks by armed bandits during a security escort and clearance operation across several communities in Taraba State.

Sources told Akelicious that the troops had provided armed escort to farmers travelling from Chanchanji to Ayu village in Donga Local Government Area, a distance of about 29 kilometres, when the operation began at about 8:15 a.m.

The sources said that after successfully escorting the farmers, the troops proceeded on a clearance operation covering Daily, Mande, Jabi, Kwanta and Wayase villages within the general area.

According to the sources, the troops made contact with armed bandits at Wayase and later at Mande, where the criminals attempted to use cattle as moving cover while engaging the soldiers with gunfire.

“They were, however, overpowered by the troops’ superior firepower and forced to withdraw in disarray. There were no casualties on the side of the troops,” one of the sources said.

During the pursuit, the troops encountered a roadblock created by the bandits using felled trees at Tseen village. The soldiers immediately conducted anti-ambush drills, cleared the obstruction and secured the route for safe movement.
