Popular social media activist, Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has stirred controversy following remarks he made about the health condition of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who was reportedly rushed out of the country for medical treatment after collapsing.
In a video circulated online, VeryDarkMan made inflammatory statements suggesting that he would “mock” Akpabio if the Senate President did not survive, comments that have since drawn widespread condemnation for being insensitive and inappropriate.
Despite the harsh tone of his remarks, the activist used the opportunity to criticise Nigeria’s political leadership over the state of the country’s healthcare system. He argued that as Senate President, Akpabio wields enough influence to sponsor or fast-track legislation that would significantly strengthen health centres across Nigeria.
VeryDarkMan also suggested that Akpabio, given his position and resources, could establish a world-class hospital in Abuja that would serve Nigerians, rather than seeking medical care abroad.
