Two civilians, a man and his wife, were killed on Wednesday night when gunmen suspected to be terrorists attacked a church in a village near Dan Kassari, Doutchi Department, in Niger Republic’s Dosso Region.
Akelicious report that the attack occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Dec. 24, when the assailants stormed the church during a night gathering.
Sources said the attackers opened fire on worshippers, killing the couple on the spot before fleeing the area.
The rural community was affected by violent extremist activities linked to the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS).
The Dosso Region, though relatively calmer compared to Niger’s western border areas, has in recent months witnessed sporadic attacks targeting civilians and places of worship, raising concerns over the expanding reach of terrorist groups.
