
Troops of the 6 Division Nigerian Army in synergy with other security agencies have deactivated twenty two illegal refining sites in Rivers and Bayelsa state. This was contained in a statement by the Acting Deputy Director of the division Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah on Monday morning, made available to Galaxy news, said nineteen suspected oil thieves were apprehended and over one hundred and eighty thousand liters of stolen products worth over a hundred and fifty million naira was recovered.
According to the Army, the operation spreads across the southern Ijaw local government areas of Bayelsa state, as well as the Eleme local government area of Rivers State. Massive reservoirs filled with stolen products as well as hundreds of sacks packed with stolen crude oil were also discovered during the operation.
The Army also confiscated large ovens used by oil thieves to perpetrate their illegal activities, as well as hoses used to siphon crude oil after it has been stolen from the source. Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army Major General Emmanuel Emekah while commending the troops for the successes recorded, charged them to sustain the tempo against economic saboteurs.
