Onye Ohi Otu – Anambra Community Women Banish Man Over Alleged Rape

Women from Egbema Ozubulu community in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State have banished a man accused of allegedly raping a married woman.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when a large group of women stormed the suspect’s residence and forcefully escorted him out of the community, chanting traditional protest songs to express their outrage over the allegation.

Eyewitnesses said the women were heard singing “onye ohi otu,” loosely translated as “vagina thief,” as they marched the man through the streets and pushed him beyond the community boundary, in line with what they described as a cultural sanction against grave moral offences.

Community sources disclosed that the action followed an emergency meeting of women leaders and elders after the alleged victim reported the incident. The women insisted that such an offence would not be tolerated in Egbema Ozubulu, especially against a married woman.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Anambra State Police Command, and it remains unclear whether the matter has been formally reported to law enforcement authorities.
