Barrister Peter Ekwueme has lauded Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for what he described as remarkable improvements in the security situation across the state, particularly during the 2025 Christmas and New Year festivities.

In a statement made available to the press, Ekwueme noted that in a political environment often marked by sharp disagreements and partisan rivalry, it was important to acknowledge genuine progress wherever it occurs. He stressed that leadership should be evaluated not by party affiliation but by its tangible impact on the lives of the people.

According to him, the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the recent festive period marked a significant departure from previous years when fear, restricted movement, and insecurity dominated celebrations.

“The widely recorded testimonies of peace, safety, and tranquility across Anambra during the mass return of Ndi Anambra from different parts of Nigeria and the diaspora represent a major milestone,” Ekwueme said. “Families travelled freely, social and economic activities thrived, and lives were celebrated without the usual cloud of insecurity.”

He described security as a non-partisan issue that affects all segments of society, including traders, professionals, traditional institutions, youths, elders, indigenes, and visitors, irrespective of political leanings.

Ekwueme, who identified himself as a member of the opposition, подчеркed that while constructive criticism remains necessary in a democracy, it is equally important to commend good performance when it is evident.

“As members of the opposition, it is our duty to criticize objectively when necessary, but it is also our responsibility to give kudos when performance demands it. Anything short of this would be unfair to the people we all claim to serve,” he stated.

He further noted that improved security is critical to economic growth, investment, social harmony, and public confidence, adding that peace remains the foundation for sustainable development in Anambra State.

Ekwueme therefore commended Governor Soludo and the state’s security architecture for the achievement, urging them to sustain and deepen the gains made through consistency, inclusiveness, and stronger community collaboration.

“Anambra works best when peace prevails,” he concluded. “God bless Anambra State.”
