Klopp Reacts to Xabi Alonso’s Exit, Questions Situation at Real Madrid

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has shared his thoughts on Xabi Alonso’s sudden departure from Real Madrid, suggesting that the move is a clear sign that things are not entirely right at the Spanish giants.

Speaking to ServusTV, Klopp described Alonso as an outstanding coaching talent and expressed surprise that he was forced to leave the club after just six months.

When you see Xabi — an outstanding coaching talent — having to leave Real Madrid only after half a year, that shows that the situation is not 100 per cent right,” Klopp said.

There is no time anymore, and the expectations at Real Madrid are enormous.”

Klopp noted that while Alonso’s exit followed a cup final defeat and weeks of speculation, the decision itself did not shock him entirely due to Real Madrid’s high-pressure environment.

To make such a decision after losing a cup final, after hearing the rumours for a while… it did not trigger anything in me. I was surprised, though that’s true,” he added.

Meanwhile, reports linking Klopp himself to Real Madrid have been played down. Although the German tactician is admired by figures at the club, sources confirm that no talks or agreements have taken place regarding a potential move in 2026.

Klopp’s future remains open-ended and largely dependent on when he chooses to return to frontline coaching. For now, the former Liverpool boss is said to be fully focused on his current role at Red Bull, with no immediate plans to make a comeback to club management.
