
Rocco Benito Commisso, the Italian-American billionaire businessman and long-time president of ACF Fiorentina, has died at the age of 76, the club and multiple reliable sources report.
Commisso, who bought Fiorentina in June 2019 and led the club through some of its most ambitious years, passed away tonight, January 16, 2026. His death marks a deeply sad moment for the Viola community, coming amid a challenging chapter for the historic Serie A club.
Born in Italy and raised in the United States, Commisso was the founder and CEO of Mediacom and later became a passionate owner and president of Fiorentina, pouring significant resources into the club’s future, including infrastructure and youth development.
The news comes as a huge shock to supporters worldwide, especially after enduring recent tragedies including the death of Fiorentina general manager Joe Barone in March 2024 and ongoing struggles for the team on and off the field.
