Nigeria Is Conducive Enough — Dele Momodu Criticises Extravagant Foreign Travel

Dele Momodu

Veteran journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, has criticised what he described as the needless culture of wealthy Nigerians travelling abroad to spend money, saying celebrating and investing at home makes more sense.

Momodu made the remarks during a discussion with Davido’s aide, Israel DMW, where both men agreed that Nigeria remains a comfortable and suitable place for affluent individuals to enjoy their wealth.

Describing the setting as “very conducive,” Momodu said many rich Nigerians often travel to “quiet, unknown places” overseas simply to show off, instead of staying back home. Israel DMW echoed the sentiment, insisting that being at home is better than going abroad just to spend money.

Momodu lamented the high cost of foreign travel, especially air tickets, which he said could cost between ₦5 million and ₦10 million.
He questioned the rationale behind such expenses, noting that the same amount could have a more meaningful impact if spent within local communities.

“I’m tired of travelling,” Momodu said, adding that spending huge sums on tickets was unnecessary. He argued that giving such money back to villages or spending it locally would be more beneficial.

Israel DMW reacted in agreement, expressing surprise at the figures mentioned and backing the idea that Nigeria offers enough comfort for leisure and celebration without the need to travel abroad.

The conversation has since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians agreeing that supporting local tourism and communities is a better use of wealth than extravagant foreign trips.
