Competent sources within the Presidential Villa have disclosed a growing division among senior aides and cabinet members over the political standing of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
According to insiders, several members of the President’s inner circle are pressing for Wike’s removal from office, accusing the former Rivers State governor of overstepping his bounds in the ongoing political developments in Rivers State and aggravating local tensions. The camp reportedly believes that Wike’s actions have become a liability that could undermine broader political stability.
However, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is said to be reluctant to take such a step. Sources close to the President reveal that Tinubu continues to view Wike as a loyal ally and maintains a personal “soft spot” for the minister.
The President is reportedly weighing Wike’s past political value, including his role in tilting Rivers State toward the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 general elections, as well as his influence in internal crises within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Rather than an outright dismissal, Tinubu is believed to be considering a more politically amicable resolution that would preserve alliances while managing internal dissent within the administration.
The emerging split highlights the delicate balance between loyalty and political strategy within the Presidency, as pressure mounts from different power blocs.
