Bandits Kill Soldier, One Other in Katsina Village Attack

Two persons, including a Nigerian Army soldier, were killed in the early hours of Friday when armed bandits attacked Unguwar Dahiru village in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Sources said the attack occurred at about 1:20 a.m. on January 31, when the assailants stormed the community, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents.

Security patrol teams were said to have responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a sustained gun battle that eventually forced them to flee the area.

The victims were identified as Shamsu Rilwan, 22, a resident of the village, and Abubakar Mohammed, 22, a soldier attached to the Military Super Camp in Faskari. Mohammed was reportedly returning from leave when he was caught in the attack.

Their bodies were evacuated to the General Hospital, Funtua, where a medical doctor confirmed them dead.

Security agencies have launched efforts to track down and apprehend the perpetrators of the attack. Meanwhile, residents of the area have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security authorities to help prevent further incidents.

Katsina State has continued to experience sporadic attacks by armed bandits, particularly in rural communities, despite ongoing security operations.
