Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has ordered the immediate removal of all government appointees from Amasiri community, including Management Committee members and Commissioners.
The governor also announced the dethronement of all traditional rulers from the area, declaring their certificates of recognition invalid with immediate effect.
In addition, all Community Development Union (CDU) Presidents and Village Heads in Amasiri have been relieved of their positions.
The sweeping decisions were contained in a directive issued by the governor on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ebonyi State Government has not provided detailed reasons for the actions, but the development has generated widespread reactions within the affected communities and across the state.
Efforts to reach government officials for further clarification were unsuccessful.
