The United States (U.S) has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack on Niamey, Niger, which targeted the Diori Hamani International Airport and the adjoining military base.
In a statement issued by the U.S. Embassy in Niamey, the attack, which occurred in the night of Jan. 28 to Jan. 29, was described as a direct assault on critical infrastructure and a threat to the safety of civilians and all those working to support stability and security in Niger.
“This attack targeted critical infrastructure and threatens the security of civilians as well as all those who are working to support stability and security in Niger,” the embassy said.
It added that acts of violence of such nature undermine peace, development, and the joint efforts of Nigeriens and their partners to build a safer and more prosperous future.
The United States expressed solidarity with the people and government of Niger and reaffirmed its firm opposition to terrorism and violent extremism in all their forms.
“The United States supports efforts to bring those responsible to justice and remains committed to working with Niger and regional partners to promote security, resilience, and respect for human life,” the statement said.
