Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has written a strongly worded open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing deep concerns over the state of the nation and warning that Nigeria is drifting toward dangerous instability.
In the letter released on Sunday, Melaye described the current situation in the country as “alarming and unsustainable,” citing worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and what he called declining public trust in democratic institutions.
Melaye pointed to persistent terrorism, banditry, kidnappings, and communal killings across various regions of the country. According to him, many Nigerians now live in fear, while rural communities remain vulnerable to attacks.
He warned that the federal government must urgently review its security architecture, stating that “a nation where citizens cannot sleep with both eyes closed is a nation in distress.”
The former lawmaker also criticized the current economic conditions, highlighting rising inflation, food scarcity, fuel price hikes, and the depreciation of the naira. He argued that many families are struggling to survive, with small businesses collapsing under mounting costs.
Melaye urged the president to introduce immediate relief measures and adopt people-centered economic policies that would cushion the impact of reforms.
In the letter, he appealed directly to President Tinubu to reassess his administration’s priorities and adopt a more inclusive style of governance.
History will remember you not for the power you wielded, but for the lives you improved,” Melaye reportedly wrote, urging the president to act swiftly to prevent further social and political tension.
