‘Weep for Nigeria’ — Paul Ibe Criticises Daniel Bwala After International Interview

Paul Ibe and Daniel Bwala

A media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has criticised presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala following his recent international media appearance, accusing him of spreading falsehoods and attempting to rewrite political history.

In a statement titled “Weep Not for Bwala, Weep for Nigeria,” Ibe said Bwala’s comments after his interview with journalist Mehdi Hasan were filled with contradictions and misrepresentations.

According to Ibe, Bwala had previously contacted the Atiku media team requesting a press statement claiming that Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his associates were threatening his life. Ibe said the team declined to issue such a statement, describing the request as “frivolous and opportunistic political theatre.”

The statement further accused Bwala of attempting to portray his interview as a demonstration of courage, arguing instead that the discussion exposed inconsistencies between his past criticisms of the current administration and his present role defending it.

Ibe said the interview showed Bwala struggling to reconcile earlier statements he made about President Tinubu with his current position in government. He also criticised Bwala for dismissing documented concerns about governance and insecurity as “fake news.”

The Atiku aide added that serious national issues, particularly insecurity and the loss of lives across the country, should not be trivialised as “mere politics.”

He further challenged Bwala’s public declarations about being ready to appear on international media platforms, saying the real challenge lies in defending government policies and records that critics describe as difficult to justify.
