Iran’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Gholamreza Mahdavi Raja, has dismissed allegations that Iran sponsors terrorism in Nigeria, describing the claims as “completely baseless” and politically motivated.
The remarks come in response to recent accusations by Israel’s ambassador to Nigeria, who suggested that Iran plays a role in supporting extremist activities in the country.
Speaking on the issue, Raja said the allegations were aimed at damaging long-standing diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Iran. According to the envoy, relations between the two countries span more than six decades and are built on mutual respect and cooperation.
“The claims made by the Israeli ambassador are unfounded and appear designed to undermine the cordial relationship between Iran and Nigeria,” Raja said.
He emphasized that Iran respects Nigeria’s sovereignty and security and maintains a strong commitment to constructive relations with both the Nigerian government and its people.
Raja also accused Israel of attempting to deflect attention from its own actions abroad. He alleged that Israel has been involved in sponsoring terrorism and carrying out assassinations in other countries, suggesting that the accusations against Iran are intended as a distraction.
“Iran values its relationship with Nigeria and remains committed to cooperation based on mutual respect,” the ambassador added.
