Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has criticized individuals he accused of spreading false claims about the achievements of his administration, insisting that governance should take priority after elections rather than partisan attacks.
The governor made the remarks on Saturday while speaking at a public event in the state, where he defended ongoing projects under his leadership and condemned what he described as deliberate attempts to deny visible development because of political differences.
According to Otti, some critics have gone to the media to dismiss completed projects simply because they belong to opposing political parties.
“In those days, people who told lies were sent to the evil forest. Some people now think it is normal to deny achievements simply because someone does not belong to their political party,” the governor said.
He emphasized that after elections, leaders should focus on governance and delivering dividends of democracy to the people rather than engaging in unnecessary political disputes.
The Abia governor also questioned the motives of individuals he said were spreading misinformation about developments in the state, particularly those who identify as Igbo.
“When you see some people who claim to be Igbo come to the media and lie, we need to question if they are truly Igbo, because we are known to be honest people,” he stated.
Otti further argued that it was unreasonable for critics to deny the completion of projects that are visible to the public.
“You cannot see a road that has been completed and say it is not done,” he added.
The governor maintained that his administration would remain focused on delivering more infrastructure and services to residents of Abia State despite criticisms.
“As for me, my response to them is to keep doing more work for the people of Abia State,” he concluded.
