The Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to flushing out terrorists and criminal elements from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following a two-day intensive training exercise by troops of 102 Guards Battalion.

The exercise, codenamed Exercise Leopard Claw, commenced on March 26 with lecture sessions and culminated on March 27 with a full-scale field simulation focused on raid and rescue operations.

Speaking at the event, the Commander, Guards Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Adebisi Onasanya, reiterated the brigade’s resolve to sustain training and operations aimed at tackling terrorism and banditry within Abuja and its environs.

Onasanya, who was the Special Guest of Honour, said the exercise was designed to enhance the operational capacity of troops in conducting missions in high-risk environments.

He assured residents of Abuja of their safety and urged them to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.

“Security is a collective responsibility that requires the cooperation of both the military and the civilian populace,” he said.

The exercise featured coordinated raid missions, including simulated rescue of kidnapped victims, assault on suspected terrorist enclaves and demolition of identified hideouts.

Troops demonstrated tactical efficiency and professionalism throughout the exercise, culminating in the neutralisation of simulated hostile elements.

Military authorities said the successful conduct of the exercise underscored the preparedness and resilience of the Guards Brigade in fulfilling its mandate of safeguarding lives and securing the nation’s capital.
