Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the rising wave of insecurity across Nigeria, warning that the country must not accept violence as a permanent reality.
In a strongly worded statement, Obi questioned the persistent bloodshed affecting several states, including Plateau State, Benue State, Niger State, Sokoto State, Kwara State, and Kogi State. He lamented the continued loss of lives and destruction of communities, asking whether Nigerians should resign themselves to fear and instability.
“Can peace reign in our land?” Obi asked, stressing that the current situation reflects deeper systemic failures rather than inevitability. According to him, the worsening insecurity is a direct consequence of leadership shortcomings and lack of decisive action.
The former presidential candidate maintained that Nigerians must not allow insecurity to become the “new normal,” insisting that peace is achievable with the right commitment and governance. He urged citizens to demand accountability from leaders and called for immediate, coordinated efforts to restore safety across affected regions.
Obi further emphasized that silence in the face of violence is not an option, warning that continued inaction could lead to further loss of lives and national instability.
Reiterating his vision for the country, he concluded with his signature message: “A new Nigeria is possible,” expressing hope that with collective will and responsible leadership, lasting peace can be achieved.
