A heated exchange has erupted between social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, and human rights campaigner Omoyele Sowore over the detention of businessman B-Lord.
In a strongly worded reaction shared online, VeryDarkMan criticized Sowore for publicly intervening in the matter instead of reaching out to him privately. He argued that, out of respect, Sowore could have contacted him directly to discuss the case.
The activist further issued a stern warning, stating that he would take legal action against anyone who uses his name or image without consent. He also defended his role in the case, emphasizing that influence or financial power should not be used to evade justice.
VeryDarkMan went on to highlight what he described as a rare outcome in Nigeria’s legal system, claiming that despite being perceived as “poor” and without strong connections, he was able to ensure that a powerful and well-connected individual was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
“Knowledge is indeed power,” he added, underscoring his belief in legal awareness over influence.
Meanwhile, Sowore, reacting to reports of the court-ordered detention, condemned what he described as the growing trend of celebrating incarceration. He revealed that he had contacted his lawyer, Marshal D F Abubakar, instructing him to withdraw from the case.
Sowore maintained that the detention of B-Lord should not be seen as a victory, warning that such actions could reinforce a system that weaponizes the law against citizens.
“No one should celebrate the incarceration of any person under the color of law,” Sowore stated, adding that justice should not be reduced to punishment alone.
He also disclosed plans to push for the discontinuation of the case and secure B-Lord’s release.
