The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has launched a scathing attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the electoral body of becoming “irredeemably partisan” and calling for the immediate removal of Amupitan.
In a strongly worded statement, Mark alleged that there is a deliberate agenda to position President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the only viable option for Nigerians ahead of future elections. He argued that such a move undermines democracy, especially in the face of rising poverty and worsening insecurity across the country.
According to him, the current socio-economic challenges are a direct result of what he described as the failures of the Tinubu administration. He further claimed that fears of electoral defeat are driving desperate attempts to cling to power through undemocratic means.
Mark stated that opposition coalition leaders came together under the ADC platform with the primary aim of rescuing Nigeria from what he termed an “emerging dictatorship.” He insisted that the coalition followed due process in aligning with the party, fulfilling all constitutional and legal requirements.
The ADC chairman also accused Nafiu Gombe and his legal team of acting as “willing tools” in the hands of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), further intensifying the political tensions surrounding the controversy.
The statement adds to growing concerns among opposition figures over the perceived neutrality of INEC as Nigeria inches closer to another electoral cycle.
