The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that the ruling party is weakening opposition forces in Nigeria.
Speaking in Abuja, Wike insisted that accusations against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are misleading, stressing that opposition parties are not under attack.
“It’s not correct that the ruling party is killing the opposition,” Wike said, pushing back against growing criticism of the current administration.
He argued that political struggles are part of the system, noting that both ruling and opposition parties often exploit legal and strategic opportunities to gain advantage.
Wike also referenced his own experience, claiming he faced stronger pressure during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, yet stood his ground and fought through legal means.
The remarks come amid heightened political tension, especially following the ongoing leadership crisis rocking the ADC and debates over the strength of Nigeria’s opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
