Easter: Northern CAN Urges Christians to Defend Themselves Amid Rising Attacks

CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the North has called on Christians to take proactive steps to defend themselves against persistent attacks in the region.

The call was made by the Northern CAN Chairman, Rev. Joseph Hayab, following the recent Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, which left over 20 people dead and several others injured.

Hayab stressed that the Christian community must organise and resist intimidation, noting that attackers have continued to target communities, especially during major religious celebrations like Easter and Christmas.

He, however, did not explicitly call for the use of arms, stating that strategies for self-defence would not be publicly disclosed.

The development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity, as the Defence Headquarters has already placed troops on nationwide alert to prevent further attacks during the Easter period.

Security experts have also emphasized the need for lawful self-defence and stronger community-based security measures to complement efforts by security agencies.

The statement has sparked reactions nationwide, highlighting the urgent need for improved security and protection of lives across northern Nigeria.
