Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the resurgence of violent attacks across Nigeria, describing the situation as a failure of leadership.
In a statement shared on Monday, Obi referenced the President’s recent visit to Jos, where he assured victims that such violence would not recur.
Quoting the President’s pledge, Obi said, “This experience will not repeat itself,” adding that another attack reportedly occurred less than 24 hours later, undermining the assurance.
He pointed to fresh violence in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, as well as incidents across other states including Nasarawa, Zamfara, Borno, Benue, and Kaduna.
Obi described the situation as a “national emergency,” stressing that insecurity has escalated with killings, abductions, and destruction of property in multiple communities.
He further stated that the primary responsibility of government—to protect lives and property—is failing, warning that Nigerians are increasingly unsafe even in their homes and communities.
The comments come amid growing concerns over persistent attacks in different parts of the country, despite ongoing security efforts by authorities.
