Veteran actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has strongly criticised supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the “City Boy Movement,” describing it as an insult to the Igbo people.
Speaking during a recent interview, Okonkwo accused members of the group of “selling their conscience for personal gain”, insisting that their actions do not reflect the values or identity of the Igbo people.
He went further to describe such supporters as “political scavengers,” alleging that they are seeking relevance by aligning with power rather than standing on principle.
According to him, the broader Igbo community has distanced itself from the movement, stressing that those backing it do not represent Ndigbo.
Okonkwo also used strong cultural symbolism, stating that Igbos are known for earning their livelihood with dignity, not depending on what he described as “crumbs” from political figures.
The remarks have since sparked reactions across political and social spaces, with many Nigerians debating the growing tension around identity, loyalty, and political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections
