The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has paid a solidarity visit to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), raising concerns over what both parties described as increasing political pressure targeting opposition groups in Nigeria.
The high-level PDP delegation was led by Seyi Makinde and included prominent figures such as Adolphus Wabara, Jerry Gana, and Babangida Aliyu, among others.
During the visit, the PDP leadership noted what it described as a “growing and shared threat” facing opposition parties, emphasizing that similar challenges had recently affected the party. The delegation stressed the need for vigilance against actions capable of undermining democratic principles and political plurality in the country.
The ADC leadership, which received the delegation, included notable political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi.
In their response, ADC leaders expressed appreciation for the visit and echoed concerns about what they termed an “existential threat” to democracy in Nigeria, particularly through alleged efforts to weaken major opposition parties.
Both parties agreed on the need for sustained engagement and collaboration in defending democratic values, institutions, and political inclusiveness across the country.
The statement was signed by Ini Ememobong, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP.
