PDP Accuses Police of Partisanship Over Secretariat Takeover

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the Nigeria Police Force over the unsealing of its National Secretariat, describing the move as unlawful and contemptuous of due judicial process.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party alleged that the police facilitated the takeover and occupation of the secretariat by individuals it described as agents of the federal government and supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), posing as PDP members.

The PDP maintained that the police acted despite being aware of a pending appeal challenging a judgment by Justice Abdulmalik, which it claimed the police relied upon in taking the action. According to the party, the matter is already before the Court of Appeal, and the police, being a party to the case, had been duly served.

The opposition party argued that the police’s action could undermine the outcome of the appellate court’s decision, accusing the force of tampering with the legal process.

“It is most shameful that those entrusted with protecting the law are those disobeying the law,” the statement read.

The PDP further expressed disappointment that the police, under the leadership of a new Inspector General, had continued what it described as partisan conduct, alleging consistent support for factions aligned with certain political interests.

While urging its members to remain calm and law-abiding, the party assured that it would pursue all legal avenues to defend its rights and reclaim control of its secretariat.

The PDP also warned against what it termed a growing trend of “state-sponsored persecution” and a push toward a one-party system, expressing optimism that democratic order would ultimately prevail.
