A Nigerian activist known as PidoNigeria has made a series of serious allegations regarding his past detention and prosecution, as well as a public fallout with investigative journalist David Hundeyin.

In a lengthy statement shared online, PidoNigeria claimed he was previously detained and prosecuted on treason-related charges by authorities under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He alleged that during the period of his detention, he was held in facilities in Port Harcourt and later Abuja, before being granted administrative bail.

The activist further accused Hundeyin of misrepresenting the circumstances of his arrest on social media, alleging that the journalist publicly suggested the detention was staged and linked him to Nigeria’s intelligence services. According to PidoNigeria, these claims were false and contributed to public misunderstanding of his situation.

He also alleged that Hundeyin contacted officials within the national security structure during his legal ordeal and shared private communications, including conversations involving his family members. These actions, he claimed, worsened his legal and personal challenges at the time.

PidoNigeria expressed regret over entrusting access to his social media account to the journalist during his detention, stating that the decision led to what he described as a distortion of facts presented to the public.

The claims come amid broader conversations about press freedom, national security, and the treatment of individuals facing serious charges in Nigeria. Treason cases in the country are handled by the Federal High Court, and similar charges have previously been brought against figures such as Nnamdi Kanu.

As of the time of this report, David Hundeyin has not publicly responded to the latest allegations. Independent verification of the claims remains limited, and no official statement has been issued by relevant authorities.
