Akwa Ibom Announces Maiden International Flight From Uyo to Accra

The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced that the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, will record its maiden international flight on Saturday, May 2, 2026, marking a major milestone in the state’s aviation history.

According to a press release signed by the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, the inaugural flight will be operated by the state-owned airline, Ibom Air, flying from Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, to Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana. The return flight is scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2026.

The statement noted that the development follows Presidential approval for the upgrade of the airport to international status and significant investments by the administration of Governor Umo Eno to ensure full technical and infrastructural readiness.

The government described the inaugural flight as a strategic step toward expanding Akwa Ibom’s aviation capacity, boosting international connectivity, and positioning the state as a key hub for tourism and investment.

It further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for granting approval, and to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for supporting the realization of the project.

While confirming the commencement of international operations, the government stated that the official opening of the new terminal and full commercial international flight schedule will be announced later.
