Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, is reportedly set to leave the party and align with the Peoples Redemption Party.
According to reports from Punch Newspapers, the move signals a major political shift as realignments begin ahead of the 2027 elections. Datti, who was a key figure in the Labour Party’s rise during the last election cycle, is now said to be exploring a new political platform.
Sources suggest that the development may not be unconnected to earlier tensions within the Labour Party, including disagreements over party direction and public statements. The party had, at different times, distanced itself from some of Datti’s positions, pointing to underlying cracks within the movement.
While the report indicates that he has “dumped” the Labour Party, full official details remain limited. There has been no widely circulated resignation letter or formal announcement confirming his complete defection or registration with the PRP.
Political observers say this development, if confirmed, could reshape opposition dynamics and trigger further defections as parties begin early positioning for the next general elections.
