Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has downplayed the intensity of online political clashes among supporters of opposition figures, insisting that his own base remains focused and disciplined ahead of the 2027 elections.
Amaechi stated that the real tension on social media is largely between loyalists of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, describing their camps as deeply divided over who should emerge as the consensus candidate.
According to him, supporters of Obi—popularly known as “Obidients”—have maintained a firm “Obi or nothing” stance, while Atiku’s backers are equally resolute with their “Atiku or nothing” position.
He questioned whether both camps truly possess the electoral strength they claim, suggesting that online noise may not translate into real-world voting power.
Amaechi expressed confidence in his own chances of securing the party’s presidential ticket, emphasizing that his calm approach is strategic and aimed at fostering unity across factions.
“I’m confident I will win the ticket, which is why I remain calm, so I can bring everyone together,” he said.
The former Minister of Transportation positioned himself as a unifying figure capable of bridging divides within the opposition, as political maneuvering intensifies ahead of the next general election cycle.
