The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has commenced its rally activities following the high-profile defection of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The two opposition figures were formally received into the party on Sunday in Abuja, where they called on supporters and party members to shun litigation and focus on national development.
Speaking during the event, Obi urged politicians to prioritize unity and progress over internal disputes, emphasizing the need for a collective effort to address Nigeria’s challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso echoed similar sentiments, stressing that the time had come for a more coordinated opposition capable of offering credible alternatives to Nigerians.
Obi’s move to the NDC comes shortly after he announced his resignation from the ADC, a party he joined in December, signaling a significant shift in the opposition landscape.
The development marks a new phase of political realignment, as major actors reposition themselves in the build-up to the next election cycle. Analysts say the entry of Obi and Kwankwaso into the NDC could reshape alliances and intensify competition among opposition parties.
The NDC rally is expected to continue in the coming days, with party leaders expressing optimism about expanding their support base nationwide.
