Former President Goodluck Jonathan has paid a heartfelt tribute to late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, describing him as a “servant leader” whose legacy of integrity, humility, and commitment to justice continues to inspire Nigeria’s leadership.
In a message marking the 16th anniversary of Yar’Adua’s passing, Jonathan reflected on their time in office, noting that he was privileged to have worked closely with the late leader, whom he described as not just a boss but a brother and partner in service.
Jonathan said their administration was driven by a shared vision of building an inclusive, united, and just Nigeria, where the rule of law is upheld and the will of the people respected through credible elections.
He praised Yar’Adua’s leadership style, highlighting his humility and willingness to prioritize national stability over personal or political interests. According to him, the late president’s calm disposition and firm belief in justice set him apart as a leader deeply committed to democratic values.
The former president also commended Yar’Adua’s efforts in peace-building, noting that his approach to governance reflected courage, sincerity, and a readiness to address national challenges.
Jonathan urged current and future leaders to draw lessons from Yar’Adua’s life, emphasizing that leadership remains a sacred responsibility that must be anchored on transparency, accountability, and genuine service to the people.
Sixteen years after his death, Jonathan said Yar’Adua’s contributions to Nigeria’s development continue to stand as a testament to his enduring legacy.
He concluded with prayers for the repose of the late president’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus.
