Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), aligning herself with the political movement of Peter Obi.
In a statement announcing her defection, Yesufu said the coming days would be critical in shaping Nigeria’s future, stressing that her decision was driven by a deeper conviction about the direction of the country.
She explained that her initial support for Obi informed her earlier move to the ADC, but to remain consistent with her commitment, she has now transitioned to the NDC, which she believes better reflects the vision she supports.
Beyond switching parties, Yesufu also declared her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senatorial seat under the NDC platform, marking a significant step into elective politics.
She noted that she had concluded all her responsibilities within the ADC, describing her exit as a “clean transition.” Yesufu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in various leadership roles within the party, including as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary.
According to her, the experience gained in the ADC was invaluable, and she appreciated the support and collaboration of party members during her time there.
Her defection and declaration add a new dimension to the evolving political realignments ahead of the next electoral cycle.
