President of the United States, Donald Trump, has commended the U.S. Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies following a deadly shooting incident involving an armed man near the White House.
In a statement released after the incident, Trump praised the “swift and professional action” taken by security operatives, revealing that the suspected gunman had a violent history and was allegedly obsessed with the White House.
According to the president, the suspect was shot dead after exchanging gunfire with Secret Service agents close to the White House gates on Saturday evening.
Trump also linked the incident to a previous shooting that reportedly occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner about a month ago, stressing the urgent need for stronger presidential security infrastructure in Washington, D.C.
“This event is one month removed from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting, and goes to show how important it is, for all future Presidents, to get what will be the most safe and secure space of its kind ever built in Washington, D.C. The National Security of our Country demands it,” Trump stated.
