Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has stirred political debate after taking a swipe at former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing him as a “content creator” rather than a serious political force.
In a strongly worded statement, Adeyanju questioned why many Nigerians take Obi seriously but admitted that the former Anambra governor has succeeded in giving hope to a section of the population.
According to him, “Hope is part of nation building,” as he credited Obi for allegedly reshaping online political conversations and redirecting the attention of former Biafra agitators toward mainstream Nigerian politics.
Adeyanju claimed Obi deserves commendation for what he described as helping “sanitize” the social media space by reducing separatist rhetoric and increasing political participation.
He further remarked that social media accounts that once displayed Biafra symbols now feature Obi’s images, arguing that the former presidential candidate had successfully built a new political movement around his personality.
The activist, however, questioned Obi’s political strategy and courage, suggesting that someone he claimed avoided a primary contest with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would struggle against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Referring to Tinubu with the phrase “grab it, snatch it and run with it master,” Adeyanju concluded by again branding Obi an “unserious content creator.”
The remarks have since sparked reactions online, with supporters and critics weighing in on the latest political exchange.
