A member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Chukwuma Okafor (PhDc), popularly known as Ebubenna, has called on the party’s national leadership to disqualify and discipline House of Representatives aspirant for Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Hon. Uchenna Okafor (Wiper), over alleged disobedience to party directives during the recently concluded primary election.
In a statement made available to journalists, Okafor accused Uchenna Okafor and his supporters of violating a directive issued by the NDC national leadership ahead of the party’s primary election held on May 29, 2026.
According to him, the directive, signed by the National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, and National Secretary, Barr. Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, expressly prohibited aspirants, state chapters, and campaign teams from announcing or releasing election results pending official communication from the party.
He alleged that despite the directive, Uchenna Okafor and his team proceeded to announce themselves as winners of the primary election and circulated what he described as “doctored results” in an attempt to project victory.
“It is regrettable that while the national leaders of our great party are doing everything possible to put the NDC on the right track, the desperation of some aspirants prevents them from obeying simple orders,” he said.
Okafor argued that such conduct amounts to indiscipline and raises concerns about the aspirant’s commitment to party rules and leadership.
“If Hon. Uchenna Okafor cannot obey the party when he is still an ordinary aspirant, one wonders how his behaviour will be when he becomes a member of the House of Representatives,” he stated.
The party stalwart further claimed that Uchenna Okafor did not effectively participate in the primary election process, alleging that only two of his supporters turned up in Ayamelum Local Government Area during the exercise.
He questioned the authenticity of the results being circulated by the aspirant’s camp and urged the party leadership to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Okafor also praised one of the aspirants Hon. Barr. Vincent Ofumelu for what he described as exemplary compliance with party directives throughout the primary election process.
He maintained that the NDC must uphold discipline and accountability within its ranks, stressing that no member should be allowed to undermine the authority of the party’s national leadership.
“The NDC should not tolerate indiscipline. Anyone who wants to become an honourable member should be honourable enough to obey party rules,” he added.
