Former Liverpool manager has penned an emotional open letter to supporters, reflecting on his time at the club and paying a heartfelt tribute to Portuguese forward .
In a message published by the Liverpool Echo, Slot described the loss of Jota as “indescribable,” revealing the deep impact the player had on those around him both on and off the pitch.
“That only weeks after celebrating together we would lose Diogo is indescribable,” Slot wrote. “More than anything, I want to remember a team-mate, a friend and an incredible human being who touched the lives of thousands every time he wore this club’s famous crest.”
The Dutch coach also praised Liverpool supporters for the way they rallied together following Jota’s passing, describing the response from the club’s fanbase as extraordinary.
“In one of the most difficult moments this club has faced, the love, compassion and support shown by the Liverpool family was extraordinary,” he said. “The way you honoured Diogo and stood together in his memory will stay with me forever.”
Reflecting on his tenure at Anfield, Slot thanked supporters for their unwavering backing, saying they made him feel welcome from the moment he arrived.
“You made me feel welcome from the start and helped me on the path. That is something I cherish,” he added.
Slot also expressed pride in Liverpool’s achievements during his spell at the club, highlighting the team’s 20th league title as a collective accomplishment shared by players, staff and supporters alike.
“Liverpool’s 20th league title belongs to all of us and it will remain an important chapter in its history. For that we should all be proud,” he stated.
Looking ahead, Slot voiced confidence in the club’s future, insisting Liverpool remains among Europe’s elite and is well-positioned to continue competing at the highest level after securing Champions League football.
