The Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has expressed concern over the rising cost of governorship elections in Nigeria, warning that excessive spending poses a threat to good governance.
According to Olukoyede, an assessment carried out last year showed that some candidates spend between ₦20 billion and ₦30 billion on party primaries, general elections, and post-election legal battles.
He called for reforms to reduce the influence of money in politics, stressing that a compromised electoral process often produces compromised leadership.
