The Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Most Rev. Prof. Godfrey Onah, has criticised politicians in Nsukka, Enugu State, accusing them of failing to speak truthfully about the challenges facing the people, particularly the worsening security situation.
Speaking during a public address, Bishop Onah alleged that many politicians have become more focused on aligning themselves with the ruling party than addressing the suffering of their constituents.
According to the cleric, some political leaders have continued to present a false picture of progress to the government while residents grapple with hardship, insecurity and repeated attacks.
“Nigerian politicians are busy dancing around the ruling party while our nation is sinking. Politicians in Nsukka have continued to deceive the government, telling them that our town is doing well. Our people have suffered greatly,” he said.
Expressing concern over the loss of lives in the area, Bishop Onah questioned how many more deaths would occur before political leaders find the courage to tell the government the true situation on the ground.
He stressed that while nothing could restore the lives already lost, urgent action must be taken to prevent further tragedies and improve security for residents.
