Controversial social media activist, VeryDarkMan, has said that he and members of the Ratel Movement staged a protest from Abuja to Oyo State over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers who were kidnapped in the state and have remained in captivity for over a month.
According to him, the protest, which he described as “war-like,” was aimed at drawing urgent attention to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and the prolonged delay in securing the release of the victims.
He explained that protesters marched through Owo Road to the Oyo State Government House, demanding immediate action for the safe return of the abducted schoolchildren.
VeryDarkMan alleged that some youths in the state resisted the protest, while also claiming that protesters were shot at during the demonstration.
Despite the tensions, he said the group was later invited to a meeting with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, after reaching the Government House.
He described the governor’s intervention as commendable, noting that Makinde engaged them directly on the security situation and the efforts being made to rescue the kidnapped children.
According to him, the governor admitted that he does not have full control over security operatives in the state but assured that efforts were ongoing to ensure the safe return of the victims.
VeryDarkMan added that he even offered to mobilise youths to join security forces in rescue efforts, an offer he said the governor acknowledged while urging patience as operations continue.
He said the protest began in Abuja, where demonstrators called on President Bola Tinubu and security chiefs to address rising insecurity, before extending the action to Oyo State, where the kidnapping occurred.
He also thanked supporters of the Ratel Movement who joined the protest, stressing the need for national unity against banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping across Nigeria.
