More than 30,000 Black African migrants have been displaced following a wave of xenophobic attacks across parts of South Africa, forcing thousands of families to seek refuge in temporary shelters provided by local authorities.

Reports indicate that those affected include migrants from several African countries, including Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Ghana, Nigeria, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Many victims have lost their homes, businesses, and personal belongings during the attacks.

Local authorities have stepped in to provide emergency assistance, with displaced persons now relying on government support for shelter, food, clean water, and sanitation services. Humanitarian organizations have also expressed concern over the worsening situation and the living conditions in overcrowded camps.

The attacks have reignited concerns about recurring xenophobic violence in South Africa, where foreign nationals are often blamed for unemployment, crime, and economic challenges despite contributing to various sectors of the economy.

African leaders and human rights groups have condemned the violence, calling on South African authorities to strengthen protection for migrants and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
