
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested the parents of twin infants whose lifeless bodies were discovered in a drainage channel in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives attached to the Okpoko Divisional Police Headquarters received a report in the early hours of June 21, 2026, about the discovery of two lifeless infant twins abandoned in a drainage channel along Cooperative Street, Nwokedi, Okpoko.
The police said officers immediately responded to the scene, secured the area, gathered vital evidence, and launched an investigation into the incident.
Preliminary findings led to the identification and arrest of the biological parents of the deceased infants. The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators in determining the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the incident as a disturbing act of inhumanity and a gross violation of the sanctity of human life.
He commended the swift response of the police operatives and their diligent investigative efforts, which resulted in the arrest of the suspects shortly after the report was made.
The police commissioner stressed that every child deserves protection, care, and the opportunity to live, adding that the command remains committed to ensuring that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.
The Command said investigations are ongoing and assured the public that further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
