A man whose sister raised the alarm over his abduction in Anambra State has regained his freedom after his family paid a ransom of N4.5 million to his captors.
His sister, a crypto trader known as Melanin Nwa on X, disclosed on Tuesday that he and the woman abducted alongside him were released at about 11:40 p.m. on Monday, after spending more than a week in captivity.
Akelicious had earlier reported that the victims were kidnapped on June 21 while on their way to church.
According to the family, armed men dressed in military uniforms intercepted their vehicle near Y Junction in Nkwelle, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, and whisked them away.
The kidnappers initially demanded N50 million as ransom. Days after the abduction, the victim’s sister shared a recorded phone call in which her brother pleaded for help.
Confirming their release, she wrote on X:
“My brother and the girl were released last night around 11:40 p.m. after spending nine days in the bush. We paid a ransom of N4.5 million. Thank you to everyone who reached out and supported us throughout this difficult time.”
In a subsequent post, she revealed that she and her youngest brother personally delivered the ransom to the kidnappers.
“My youngest brother and I were the ones who took the ransom to the kidnappers. I’ve never been more traumatised. Thank God he’s alive.”
She further disclosed that her brother told the family several other abductees were still being held in the kidnappers’ camp, with only those whose families paid ransom securing their release.
“The craziest part is that it wasn’t only them. A lot of other people are still there. It was only the people that were able to pay that got out. My brother said they were five that got out yesterday.”
