BREAKING: Adire Fabric To Replace Khaki As New NYSC Uniform

New NYSC Uniform

The Federal Government has announced plans to replace the khaki uniform worn by members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with locally produced Adire fabric as part of sweeping reforms aimed at boosting Nigeria’s economy and textile industry.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed the development on Thursday while speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.

According to the minister, the decision is part of the government’s strategy to promote local production and ensure public funds are spent on goods made in Nigeria.

“It’s Adire. So, Adire is being produced in Nigeria. We have them in Ogun, we have them in Kwara, we have textile industry. Let’s put our money back into the country,” Olawande said.

He explained that the proposed switch would stimulate indigenous industries, particularly the textile sector, while creating more opportunities for local manufacturers and artisans through increased government patronage.

The minister also revealed that the Federal Government is overhauling the NYSC posting system to ensure corps members are deployed in line with their academic qualifications and professional skills.

The planned reforms are expected to modernise the scheme, strengthen local industries, and improve the relevance of corps members’ one-year national service by aligning their postings with their fields of expertise.
