The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Senior Special Assistant to Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo on New Media, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of two major federal road projects in the South-East as a significant step toward regional development and national integration.

In a statement, Opara said the approval followed Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s meeting with President Tinubu on July 1, during which the governor highlighted critical infrastructure deficits affecting the region.

According to him, the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, subsequently requested details of the proposed projects, and Governor Soludo submitted two priority road corridors on July 3.

The projects approved for design and procurement are the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road, which will be dualised to connect Anambra State with Kogi State and the North Central region, and the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube/Okigwe Junction Road, also slated for dualisation to improve connectivity between Anambra, Imo and Abia states, while linking to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.

Opara argued that the roads would serve as strategic economic corridors by reducing travel time, lowering transportation costs, improving security through increased movement, and boosting trade and investment across the South-East and neighbouring regions.

He further said the approvals represent a shift from political rhetoric to tangible infrastructure delivery, adding that they demonstrate a growing partnership between the Tinubu administration and the Soludo-led Anambra State Government.

Describing the development as a milestone, Opara maintained that the projects would contribute to national integration and help reshape the economic landscape of the South-East.

The Federal Government has approved the projects for design and procurement, with construction timelines expected to be announced after the procurement process is completed.
