
The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a teacher accused of allegedly flogging a 12-year-old student to death at a school in Adazi-Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
The Command said the action is being coordinated under its Safe School Initiative by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Harrison Oruruo, following the tragic incident reported on July 16, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives attached to the Neni Division responded immediately after receiving the report and rushed the victim to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor while receiving treatment.
The police disclosed that the deceased’s body has been deposited in the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Preliminary observations, according to the Command, revealed visible marks of violence on different parts of the boy’s body, prompting a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The Police said investigations are ongoing and assured the deceased’s family and the public that a thorough, diligent, and transparent probe would be conducted to ensure anyone found responsible is brought to justice.
The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting school children through the Safe School Initiative and appealed to members of the public with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspect to report to the nearest police station or contact its emergency line on 07039194332.
