Panic in Enugu as Suspected Dynamite Explosion Triggers Earthquake-Like Tremors

Residents of Enugu Ngwo were thrown into panic after a powerful underground explosion reportedly rocked parts of the community on Thursday morning, causing tremors that many initially feared were an earthquake.

The incident, which occurred at about 8:30 a.m. around the Iva Valley axis, sent shockwaves across several neighborhoods, including Iva Valley, Idume Layout, Egu Eke Layout, Odoma Layout, Expression, and surrounding areas.

Eyewitnesses said the force of the blast caused noticeable ground vibrations, with many residents describing the experience as similar to a minor earthquake.

According to Ngworocks, the explosion is suspected to have originated from a mining site located in Eziomume Layout, Iva Valley, Enugu Ngwo, where dynamite may have been detonated.

The Enugu Ngwo community has commenced investigations into the incident, while relevant authorities are also assessing the cause of the explosion and any potential risks to residents.

Residents have been urged to remain calm as investigations continue. There have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant property damage.
