Chaos After the Final Whistle: FIFA Opens Case Against Argentina

Argentina disciplinary proceedings

FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Argentina following chaotic scenes after the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, where players and officials were involved in confrontations after their 1-0 extra-time defeat to Spain.

The world football governing body is investigating reports of unsporting conduct, confrontations with match officials, and breaches of post-match disciplinary regulations during and after the final whistle. The incidents reportedly occurred as emotions ran high following Argentina’s narrow defeat.

If found guilty, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) could face sanctions ranging from financial fines to other disciplinary measures, depending on the outcome of FIFA’s investigation.

FIFA has not yet announced a timeline for the conclusion of the disciplinary process, while Argentina is expected to respond to the allegations as part of the proceedings.
