Abia State University (ABSU) has suspended the Head of its Anatomy Department, Dr. Agbai Johnson Ukwa, amid an ongoing investigation into alleged academic misconduct, according to education consultant Alex Onyia.
In a post shared on X, Onyia claimed investigations had so far linked the lecturer to alleged grade sorting and other irregularities.
He alleged that the suspended lecturer “charges as high as N1.5m to pass MBBS exam.”
According to Onyia, the Abia State Government has expanded its investigation and is currently reviewing students’ results and mark sheets covering the last five years.
“The Abia State Government has intensified its investigation and is reviewing results and mark sheets for all students in the Uni for the past 5 years,” he wrote.
He further claimed that the review could lead to the cancellation of some graduates’ results if evidence of malpractice is established.
“Some graduates’ results may be cancelled after this investigation,” Onyia stated.
Describing the exercise as unprecedented, the education consultant added, “This is the most thorough academic investigation at any Nigerian university so far.”
The latest development follows Onyia’s earlier allegations against the lecturer. In a previous post, he identified the academic as the Head of the Anatomy Department at ABSU and claimed to have received reports that he allegedly extorted students before approving their graduation, warning that those who refused to comply risked failing or receiving missing scripts.
Neither Abia State University nor the suspended lecturer had publicly responded to the latest allegations at the time of filing this report. The claims remain under investigation, and no official findings have yet been released.
